Graham Herbert
Graham Herbert’s work captures the moods and shifting scenes here on the west coast, which is his home. His canvases are charged with the spirituality which emanates where land meets ocean, earth meets sky, stone meets water. Graham’s paintings invite the spectator in with their warm tones and vivid depiction of natural beauty, hold us with their subtle and complex interplay of line and colour and finally draw us deeply into the unseen forces within the landscape.
The gentle power of Graham’s work has been distilled out of his many years of landscape painting and exploration of the Pacific Coast, and sustained by his life on Hornby Island. Through constant experimentation the artist has developed techniques and approaches to express the deeply felt impressions the natural environment makes upon him.
Graham was born in 1947 and studied art at the Emily Carr College of Art and the University of Calgary. His work has been presented in 17 solo shows and can be found in countless private and dozens of corporate collections, as well as in selected galleries. Graham’s paintings have been featured on magazine and book covers and have been the subject of magazine and television articles. He has participated in many environmental group art projects, such as the Western Canada Wilderness Committee’s Carmanah: Artist Visions of an Ancient Rainforest.
For all these reasons it is not surprising that a constantly expanding following is discovering the unique and special qualities in Graham Herbert’s work.
