Ken Faulks
Ken Faulks has worked as a freelance illustrator and visual artist for the past 24 years, living and working in both |Vancouver and Victoria, BC. Ken is a versatile self-taught artist whose work includes portraits, landscapes, urban scenes, interiors, seascapes, still life, abstract and mural paintings.
Ken loves painting “en plein air” as he is inspired by the landscape and skies in and around Victoria. Plein air works involve the very enjoyable and immediate process of painting from life in the open air, working directly from the subject matter. These works are connected through subject matter, process and each painting has a life of its own. Each is as unique as the time and place it was created. “I do what I can to capture a moment in the day, with its unique light, shadow, weather and temperature.”
Ken’s abstract works are largely influenced by the landscape and environment much like his plein air work. He sees iconic shapes, textures and signatures within the landscape to produce works which generally exist within the flatness of the picture plane.
“I love the Canadian landscape. |As subjective as it may seem, it’s important to me that these abstractions feel like Canada”.
